Ms. Laura Fernández obtained a degree in Chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), where she also completed a master’s degree in materials chemistry.

Currently, she works as a predoctoral researcher in the GlaSS Research Group of the Glass Department at the Institute of Ceramics and Glass of the CSIC. Her research areas are mainly focused on the obtention and characterisation of glass and glass-ceramic materials with persistent luminescent properties, obtained by glass melting.

She is co-author of some scientific articles and around 10 oral contributions in national and international conferences. At the I Jornadas de Jóvenes Investigadores de Sevilla she won one of the prizes for the best oral communication for her work entitled «Study of the structure and luminescence in glass-ceramics of the MgO-SrO-SiO2 system». And at the 1st American Summer School on Photonic Materials held at the Centre for optics, photonics and lasers (COPL) of the Université Laval, Quebec City, Canada she won the Award for the best experimental performance.

In addition, Laura spent three months at the Conditions Extrêmes et Matériaux: Haute Température et Irradiation (CEMHTI) – CNRS, Orleans – Francia.
