Sonia Marín Cortés (Spain, 1997) is graduated in chemistry (2019) from the University of Córdoba, Spain, and she has a master’s degree in Applied Chemistry to Molecules and Materials from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2020). Currently, she is a PhD fellow at Ceramic and Glass Institute (CSIC), in the Ceramic for Smart System group (http://www.css.icv.csic.es/). Her doctoral studies are included in the EU project “ICEBERG” (https://iceberg-project.eu/), where she is dedicating great efforts to develop new circular ceramic tiles from CDWs. Besides her scientific work, she is actively managing other project activities such as the preparation of technical reports, dissemination and coordination with the consortium partners for the scalation of the developed technologies, which gives her the opportunity to raise crucial aptitudes and soft skills such as communication, teamwork and organization. In addition, the high TRL level of the project has given Sonia the chance to participate in the transfer of knowledge to the industry, scaling several the developed technologies in leading companies in the ceramic sector for its production at an industrial level and to participate as a co-author of two national patents.

Sonia is highly trained in the ceramic characterization field including a wide variability of conventional techniques such as several microscopies (FE-SEM, Confocal Raman microscopy and optical profilometry microscopy), thermal characterization (ATD-TG, hot-stage microscopy), and a wide variety of chemical and mineralogical characterization (Raman spectrocopy, UV-Vis-NIR, FTIR, PL, XRD spectroscopies), mechanical characterization (micro and nano indentation of ceramic materials, flexural strength, water absorption quality test in ceramic tiles) and other advanced techniques such as XAS using synchrotron irradiation and chemometric methodologies. In her short-time career, she presents a very active profile in dissemination and divulgation activities including 5 oral presentations in national and international congresses and attendance to several divulgation activities.
