Toirac obtained her Bachelor´s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic High Institute Jose Antonio Echeverria in Havana, Cuba and she completed her studies of master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering in the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M). Nowadays, she works as predoctoral researcher at Powder Technology Research Group in UC3M. Her research areas are mainly focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of biodegradable, antimicrobial and bioactive bilayer coatings using sol-gel technology for the local release of antibiotics/antifungals to prevent/treat infections in joint prostheses.
